Mastering Vehicle Manoeuvres: Your Guide to Confident Driving

In this examination tips blog, we will now specifically look at manoeuvring.

What is manoeuvring?

Manoeuvring refers to how you position your vehicle in a correct, safe and accurate manner.

Why must you be skilled at manoeuvring your vehicle?

  1. It affects how you share the road with other drivers and oncoming traffic
  2. This component is critically assessed in your driving exam.

Whilst many learner’s may initially struggle with manoeuvring their vehicle, with correct and plentiful practice, our driving instructors in Epping and Macquarie Park will ensure you are test and road ready. With over 10 years of local experience as one of Sydney’s best driving schools and the premier Driving School in Epping and Sydney’s Lower North Shore, our teaching style is one that is proven and results oriented. As part of your bespoke less-plan and our practical approach to teaching, we seek to gradually build your driving skills and confidence with plentiful coaching and practice.

During your lessons, our instructor will teach you on how to properly and safely administer a kerb side stop, a hill start, a three-point turn and a variety of different parks (including the reverse parallel park – one of the most challenging and assessed types of parking).

Depending on your current level of skill, as assessed by our expert driving instructors in Epping, we may start you off in an empty car park – This tends to be in a quieter street especially around North Ryde. Eventually, as a fully skilled driver, our instructors at Autogear Driving School in Epping and Macquarie Park will work alongside you help you become more comfortable and capable of driving and manoeuvring your vehicle along the busy Epping road, between Epping and Macqauire and also Herring Road, just outside the Macquarie Centre RMS driver testing centre.

What is low-risk driving and how do you practise this?

Low-risk driving is your ability to minimise driving risk. Whilst we understand that you can never have ‘0-risk’ on the road, at Autogear Driving School, our aim is to teach you to be the safest driver on the road. This is why our industry-leading driving instructors in Chatswood aim to instil a defensive-minded driving approach on all our students.

Through our individually structured lesson plans, we work with our students to not only equip them with the necessary road safety knowledge but also enhance their driving skills to make them more prepared when responding to road hazards – This might be through speed management techniques, road positioning, parking/pulling out and general decision-making skills behind the wheel.

During our initial assessment, we observe each student’s level of skill and techniques. Some of the main techniques which we assess, and are also assessed in your driving exam include how you scan the road, whether you check for blind spots, how you respond to hazards and how you position yourself on the road.

These fundamental skills needed to be trained and then practised correctly, especially if you are taking your driving test at the Chatswood NSW Service Centre  – where road conditions change constantly due to school zones with varied speed limits and changing traffic conditions. At Autogear Driving School in Chatswood, our objective is to prepare you to be comfortable driving in any condition. As a truly local driving school servicing Sydney’s Lower North Shore for over 10 years our knowledge of the roads is unparalleled. Our driving instructors in Chatswood focus on some key roads such as the Pacific Highway in Chatswood and Mowbray Road, as practice grounds for our students. This not familiarises our students with their local routes, but also equips them with advanced skills due to having practised in some of Sydney’s busiest roads.

Mastering Road Positioning: Expert Tips from the premier Driving School in Macquarie Park

Driving Examination Positioning

Driving Examination: Positioning

As part of this examination tips blog, our next topic will be road positioning, which will be broken up into a few sections.

Section 1; Road positioning refers to how you maintain a safe position on the road. This includes when you do manoeuvers, drive in-betweens the lanes and also how you position yourself when you park.

At Autogear Driving School Epping and Autogear Driving School Macquarie Park – we teach you the essential road positioning rules including buffering; which simply means how much space you keep in-between your vehicle and obstacles on the road. These could be oncoming vehicles, cars parked on the side of the road, and how you tackle edge lines and lane markings on the road. Some other areas you need to be mindful of include avoiding high-risk driving. To exemplify one such situation, we have leveraged the below image (courtesy of nsw.gov.au – A guide to the Driving Test, page 15). In the below image, you should avoid driving in the designated ‘high-risk area’ unless absolutely necessary as you are in the blind-spot of the driver in the truck.

At Autogear Driving School – our aim is to prepare you for the real world.

Our approach to helping you become a better driver is by not only teaching you the necessary driving skills, but also encouraging you to become a defensive-minded driver. By conducting most of our lessons along the busy Epping road, and the surrounding streets of Epping, North Ryde, Marsfield, Macquarie Park and Macquarie university, not only are our expert Driving instructors in Macquarie Park familiarising you on streets close to Services NSW in North Ryde and Chatswood, but also helping you become a skilled, defensive minded driver.

Mastering Speed Management: Essential Techniques for a Successful Driving Examination

Driving Examination: Speed Management

As part of this examination tips blog, our first topic will be speed management.

As a driver, you must drive at a safe and legal speed. You will need to then adjust your speed depending on obstacles in your path, this could be people, road conditions including potholes, speed bumps and the weather.

At Autogear Driving School, and with our expert driving instructors in Epping, we extensively prepare you in speed management. As a truly local driving school servicing Sydney’s Lower North Shore for over 10 years, our knowledge of the roads is unparalleled. As part of your lesson structure and our proactive approach to speed management, we teach and then test you on a variety of speed management techniques, integral to passing your driving examination. We also observe your practical skills such as whether you have maintained sufficient space when stopping behind the car in-front of you, or if no car is present, how close you have stopped to the front of the marked-line at any set of lights. For those that are attempting their driving test at the Macquarie Centre RMS, our local knowledge of the North Ryde/Marsfield and surrounding areas, including Herring Road and Epping Road prove why Autogear Driving School in Epping is the premier driving school in Epping and Macquarie Park.

Another essential skill which we teach you, and is sometimes deceptively hard to master for novice drivers is the gradual reduction of your speed. As part of our on-road driver coaching, we teach our students how to manoeuvre and adjust their speeds according to obstacles on the road. These defensive-minded skills we teach, are assessable items during your driving exams and will be examined thoroughly by our instructors. Some areas where it is essential you consider reducing your speed includes when merging lanes, driving over speed bumps and navigating across the different speed-limits such as in school zones.
